The corvette delivers supercar performance for the price of a midsize luxury sedan. and for all its performance, the corvette does not exact a painful toll on its driver or passenger. Chevrolet has eliminated nearly all the cruder, less desirable traits that characterized corvettes of yore. It's much better than the c5 it replaced, which was a solid sports car in its own right. What makes the c6 better is everything: performance, refinement, ease of operation. It's more comfortable and easier to drive, not only on the road, but also on a race track. It quickly infuses the driver with confidence. It feels like it has more grip than the c5, and it does. It's more agile than before yet more stable. Its new brakes are excellent and, yes, it's faster. This engine sounds great and intoxicates with its acceleration. New for 2006 is an optional six-speed paddle shift automatic transmission. With either the manual or automatic, the coupe is awesome, and the convertible is really wonderful. It's a wonderful feeling and at those moments the corvette more than justifies its price. the headline for the 2006 model year is a new, ultra-high performance z06 model. Beyond the engine, the z06 package includes a host of high-performance components, starting with hydro-formed aluminum frame rails (rather than the steel rails used in the standard corvette). Its hardtop is fixed in place. Its brakes are upgraded, its tires are huge and it's offered only with the six-speed manual transmission. walkaroundthe corvette's bodywork was all-new for 2005, and while this sixth-generation vette shares some familial styling cues with its predecessors, it clearly is its own animal. It's less overtly aggressive, perhaps prettier (dare we say more italian?) than previous corvettes. the exposed headlights usually draw the first comments. Since the early 1960s, corvettes used hideaway headlamps to complement their sleek designs, but advances in optics and lighting technology now enable designers to achieve those goals with exposed headlights. From an engineering standpoint, the new headlamps are better than the old hideaways: they are lighter, which means less weight hanging out over the front wheels, a critical area in terms of overhang, polar moments of inertia and all that engineering stuff that does affect handling. Trimming weight in front is always difficult in a high performance front-engine car, so this is an important reduction. The new lights also eliminate a lot of mechanical complexity and allow a higher-quality lighting setup. On top of all that, they offer better performance: chevrolet says lighting is improved 85 percent. So the exposed headlights are good thing. more important than the headlamps, however, are the corvette's smaller proportions. The c6 is fully 5 inches shorter than the c5 (3 inches shorter in front, 2 inches shorter in the rear), and the standard models are one inch narrower. Smaller size and lighter weight improve agility. The c6 also cuts a tighter profile, and it does all that without eliminating usable interior space. In addition to the handling benefits, the more diminutive dimensions make the corvette more appealing on the tighter roads found in other parts of the world, particularly europe. the c6 body work is smoother aerodynamically and generates less lift in front than the c5, which results in better grip and increased stability at high speeds. The sculpted fenders, sharp creases that sweep dramatically up to the planed rear deck and other aspects of the design call to mind race cars as well as jet fighters. The narrower rear end is the biggest improvement from a styling standpoint, offering more pleasing proportions. Rather than being attached directly behind the engine, the transmission is mounted behind the seats and connected to the differential. In the z06, this quest for front-rear balance extends to the weight of the battery, which is relocated from under the hood to the rear cargo area. the z06 is distinguished from other 2006 corvettes by lots of subtle appearance tweaks, starting with the roof. The z06 roof is fixed rather than removable, to add an extra element of structural stiffness for track driving. Its fenders are wider front and rear to cover massively wide tires and rims (the rear wheels are fully 12 inches wide, or two inches wider than those on the standard vette). There are also several z06 body and chassis changes that aren't apparent to the eye. The z06 frame is made entirely of hydro-formed aluminum (the standard vettes have steel rails), with a magnesium engine cradle, and its fenders are formed from ultra-light carbon fiber. As a result, and despite a much heavier engine and drivetrain, the z06 weighs 50 pounds less than a standard corvette coupe. interiorinside the 2006 corvette is a relatively small steering wheel, measuring just 9. 4 inches in diameter, and it addresses one of the biggest gripes we had with the 2005 model. The new wheel looks less like something that belongs in a suburban and more like one that belongs in a sports car, even a ferrari. Simply walk up and pull the door handle. Redesigned luxury performance sedan is bigger and better. introductionchalk up another home run for cadillac. Too big to be compact, yet too small to be midsize, the outgoing cts straddled the line drawn by other luxury brands. With the introduction of the compact cadillac ats, cadillac has more precisely matched the bmw 3 series class, allowing it to redesign the cts as a larger car. As a result, the 2014 cadillac cts has been moved squarely into the premium midsize category, putting it in direct competition with the audi a6, bmw 5 series, and mercedes-benz e-class. the 2014 cts sedan is 4. 2 inches longer than the previous-generation (2008-2013) models, with a wheelbase that's stretched 1. 2 inches. The 2014 cts also sits 0. 8 inch lower. The new design bears a family resemblance to the compact ats and full-size xts sedan. While still based on cadillac's art and science design language, the once-radical styling of the cts has been softened, while still keeping cadillac's signature vertical lines and sharp creases. The grille is wider, with vertical stripes of led lights that run the length of the headlamps, and continue below down the foglamp housings. a choice of engines is available for the new cts. It's paired to an all-new 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters for a broader power band and increased fuel economy. Cadillac says the cts vsport will dash from 0-60 mph in just 4. 6 seconds. Fuel economy is predictably lower, with an epa-estimated 17/25 mpg city/highway. Cts vsport models are rear-wheel drive only. based on the same rear-wheel-drive platform as the compact cadillac ats, the new cts uses many of the same weight saving technologies, like extensive use of aluminum in the chassis and body. The result is the lightest cts to date; cadillac says the base model has a curb weight of 3,616 pounds, nearly 200 pounds lighter than the bmw 528i. Use of lighter materials in the back, combined with a heavier rear steel suspension, help the cts to achieve a near-50/50 weight distribution. for the first time, gm's magnetic ride control suspension is optional on all cts models. The cts is also the first cadillac to use automatic parking assist, gm's automated parallel parking system. New safety features include automatic safety belt tightening, which continuously adjusts the seat belt during driving. A plethora of electronic safety systems are also available, including adaptive cruise control, forward collision alert, lane departure warning, side blind zone alert and panic brake assist. though its design might not appeal to everyone, the 2014 cadillac cts is as good as any german luxury sedan when it comes to performance and handling, and outshines many with its impeccable interior materials and finishes. With many technology and comfort features coming standard, the cts is also an excellent value for the money when compared to others in its class. while the cts sedan (including vsport) is all-new for the 2014 model year, the 2014 cadillac cts-v with 6. 2-liter v8, the 2014 cts coupe, and the 2014 cts sport wagon are all still based on the previous-generation platform, as are the cts-v versions of the coupe and wagon. The cts coupe and sport wagon debuted as 2011 models and have not changed much since then. S., the cadillac srx boasts unique styling, luxurious cabin appointments, a powerful engine, and a ride that's smooth and able. the 2013 cadillac srx gets a revised interior that incorporates cadillac's cue touchscreen interface. An acronym for cadillac user experience, the large screen uses proximity sensors, haptic feedback and voice recognition to control phone, audio and navigation functions. Unlike many luxury vehicles with proprietary interfaces (like the bmw idrive and mercedes benz's comand system), there is no central control knob on the center console and all functions are performed either through voice or via the touchscreen. Cue has received mixed reviews from experts and consumers. Its natural voice recognition, when it works properly, is a refreshing change from some systems that require the user to memorize specific commands. But a few idiosyncrasies and a glossy screen that shows fingerprints easily makes cue far from perfect. new safety packages, already found on the xts and ats sedans, also debut on the 2013 srx. With the driver awareness package, the driver's seat will vibrate to warn the driver of an impending collision. The srx exterior has been called everything from futuristic to risky to fat. Some have likened its shape to a mal-formed potato. Like it or not, there isn't anything else out there that looks quite like it. interiorthe cabin of the cadillac srx shines. Materials are high-quality and luxurious. The leather-clad seats are cushy yet supportive, and we especially welcomed the ventilated seat feature while driving in the afternoon summer sun. The ats does come with a microfiber cleaning cloth, but it's not an elegant solution. the rear seats are split 66/33 and recline through a fairly wide range of adjustment. Legroom is generous. We liked the opaque covering over the panoramic sunroof (unlike earlier versions which used translucent coverings that always let light in), but it limits rear headroom for taller passengers. A clever u-shaped rail system uses adjustable sliding bars to keep gear in place, rather than using nets or boxes that rattle. When not in use, the cargo bar stows away in under-floor storage area beneath cargo area. The under-floor area can also be used to store an optional spare tire. A pet guard cargo net is available that can help keep dogs in the back where they belong and may help reduce the chance of stuff flying forward when braking hard, a rare and useful option. driving impressionthe 3. 6-liter v6 pulls the weight of the cadillac srx around with ease. There is very little noise at all inside the cabin of the srx, be it from the road or under the hood. In sport mode, the transmission holds gears longer than it would in normal model for improved acceleration performance and to reduce upshifting when slowing momentarily for a corner. The system senses braking, throttle input and lateral acceleration (turns). There is also a manual mode for those who enjoy rowing through gears. In this mode, shifts are barely perceptible, although there is more delay when changing gears by hand, since the electronic sport mode anticipates gears for faster changes. The 6-speed automatic transmission includes a driver-selectable eco feature that alters shift points for greater fuel economy. With the eco mode switched on, the srx shifts at lower revs, which cadillac said will save about 1 mpg at speeds of 50 mph or slower.
